Description
Before streaming services and the internet, Indian readers discovered the world’s greatest superheroes through one publisher — Gotham Comics. This is an original Gotham Comics edition of Wonder Woman, one of DC’s most iconic characters, brought to Indian shelves at an accessible Rs.40 price point in the early 2000s. For an entire generation of Indian comic readers, Gotham Comics was the gateway to Batman, Superman, Spider-Man — and Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman — Diana Prince, Princess of Themyscira, Amazon warrior and DC’s most powerful female superhero — needs little introduction. Armed with her Lasso of Truth, indestructible bracelets, and superhuman strength gifted by the Olympian gods, she stands as a symbol of justice, compassion, and strength. The cover of this issue captures her at her most iconic: soaring above a city skyline on her golden lasso in full battle-ready glory — the eagle emblem gleaming on her chest, the star-spangled costume unmistakable. Gotham Comics brought the authentic DC Wonder Woman experience — the original stories, the original art — to Indian readers who could not otherwise access these international titles. This issue also features a promotional badge offering a “Working Replica Bat-Signal” — a collector’s detail unique to this Gotham Comics India print run that cannot be found on any other edition.
Physical Condition
This copy has been carefully examined and graded based on the actual physical copy pictured.
Grade: Good (G) — Vintage Reader’s Copy
Cover: The front cover retains the full Wonder Woman artwork with the title clearly legible. The vibrant colours — red, blue, gold, and the city skyline background — remain identifiable. However, the cover surface has sustained notable wear over the decades. The image shows significant surface deterioration on the interior/back of the cover, with dark scuff marks, peeling of the print surface layer, and scattered foxing spots (reddish-brown oxidation marks) clearly visible across the paper. This level of wear is consistent with a copy that was actively read and stored without a protective sleeve over many years.
Spine: The spine has sustained creasing and stress marks from repeated handling.
Corners: All corners are blunted and worn from age.
Interior Pages: Despite the cover wear, the interior story pages retain readable content throughout. No missing pages.
Overall: A well-worn reading copy of a now out-of-print Gotham Comics India edition. Gotham Comics ceased publication by 2007–2008[web:6], making any surviving copy a piece of Indian pop culture history. This copy is suited for readers and collectors who prioritise owning the physical piece over display-grade condition.

Authenticity & Value
Gotham Comics India operated from 1998 until approximately 2007, publishing licensed editions of DC and Marvel titles across English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, and other regional languages[web:7]. At its peak, Gotham was publishing 28 different titles simultaneously[web:6]. Today, original Gotham Comics India print runs — particularly of DC characters like Wonder Woman — are increasingly scarce. These are not reprints of modern editions; they are original print runs from an era of Indian publishing that no longer exists. Collectors of Indian pop culture, DC Comics enthusiasts, and nostalgia seekers all actively seek these out.
