Description

Not every copy that survives decades of reading does so gracefully — and this one wears its history openly. Chacha Chaudhary aur Big Ben is a heavily read vintage issue from the iconic Diamond Comics series created by the legendary cartoonist Pran Kumar Sharma. What this copy lacks in pristine condition, it more than makes up for in authenticity — this is a comic that was genuinely loved, passed from hand to hand, and read until the pages practically memorised themselves.

Big Ben is one of the more memorable antagonists in the Chacha Chaudhary rogues’ gallery — a towering, muscle-bound brute whose physical power is the polar opposite of Chacha’s cerebral approach to every problem. The cover captures the confrontation dramatically: a massive fight scene with Big Ben dominating the frame, a bearded accomplice in the mix, and Chacha Chaudhary caught in the midst of the chaos — the frail old man in his red turban facing down raw power with nothing but his razor-sharp mind. It is quintessential Pran storytelling — the underdog who always finds a way.

The Chacha Chaudhary series began in the Hindi magazine Lotpot in 1969 and became a full comic book series with Diamond Comics from 1981 onwards, selling nearly ten million copies across ten Indian languages and becoming one of the most culturally significant comic franchises in Indian history. Pran Kumar Sharma, known as the “Walt Disney of India,” created a character whose adventures spoke directly to the everyday Indian reader — no superpowers, just wisdom.

Created By: Pran Kumar Sharma | Publisher: Diamond Comics, India | Series: Chacha Chaudhary | Genre: Comedy / Adventure | Language: Hindi | Era: 1980s–1990s | Format: Standard comic book

Physical Condition

This copy has been carefully examined and graded based on the actual physical copy pictured. Buyers should note that this is an honest vintage reading copy with significant wear — priced and described accordingly.

Grade: Poor (P) — Heavily Read Vintage Copy

Cover: The cover has multiple deep crease lines running diagonally across the surface — these are prominent fold/stress lines where the cover paper has cracked and whitened along the fold. The pink-red background has significant scuffing and surface paper lifting in several areas. Despite this, the cover artwork — the fight scene featuring Big Ben and the other characters — remains fully visible and identifiable. The title “चाचा चौधरी और बिग बेन” and the Diamond Comics logo at top-left are present and legible.

Spine: The spine has heavy wear consistent with the overall condition — edge softening and stress marks visible. No spine split observed.

Corners: Corners are heavily rounded and blunted from decades of handling. The comic retains its overall shape.

Interior Pages: Interior pages are expected to show age toning consistent with the cover condition. No missing pages.

Overall: A well-worn reading copy in Poor condition — priced to reflect its honest state. For collectors who want a genuine vintage copy of a rare Chacha Chaudhary title and are comfortable with heavy reader wear, this represents a rare opportunity to own an original. This copy has clearly been cherished across many readings.

Authenticity & Value

This is a genuine original vintage copy — not a reprint. Original Diamond Comics issues from the Chacha Chaudhary series are increasingly difficult to locate in any condition, as most copies from this era were read to destruction. A well-worn copy like this is living proof of how beloved these comics were. For collectors focused on completeness — building a full run of Chacha Chaudhary titles — a heavily read original is still far more valuable than no copy at all. The character of Big Ben adds rarity value as a less-commonly listed title in the series.
