Description

Raj Comics published thousands of stories, but only a handful became legend — and Nagina Ka Jaal is unquestionably one of them. This is Nagraj #28, a Special Edition (SPCL #5) from 1991, written by Sanjay Gupta and illustrated by the celebrated Pratap Mullik — one of the most revered artist-writer teams in Indian comics history[web:27].

What makes this issue stand apart in the Nagraj canon is the landmark introduction of the Panchnaag — the elite Five Snake Warriors of Nagdweep — who make their debut here and go on to become some of the most beloved characters in the Nagraj universe[web:31]. The story dives deep into the mythology of Nagdweep (Snake Island): Mahatma Kaldoot reveals the ancient history of the island — once ruled by three fearsome carnivorous tribes before the age of the serpents began[web:25]. Nagina, ambitious and treacherous, harbors dreams of ruling the island as its empress. Behind the chaos lurks the notorious King Cobra and his criminal syndicate — and Nagraj’s own creator, Professor Nagmani, is somehow entangled in the web. Can Nagraj face this many enemies at once? The cover answers the question visually: a green-suited Nagraj locked in combat with a ferocious beast while the Raj Comics Special Edition banner blazes above — pure, unforgettable early-90s Indian superhero art.

Physical Condition

This copy has been carefully examined and graded based on the actual physical copy pictured.

Grade: Good (G) — Vintage Copy with Age-Consistent Wear

Cover: The cover has strong colour retention for a 1991 vintage Raj Comics Special Edition — the vibrant greens of Nagraj’s suit, the creature’s rich purple/brown tones, and the bright yellow “राज कॉमिक्स विशेषांक” banner are all well-preserved. The original MRP of ₹15.00 is clearly printed at top-left, confirming this as an authentic early-1990s print. Some age-related surface wear is present but no significant crease lines are visible across the cover art. The title “नगीना का जाल” is fully legible.

Spine: The spine shows light wear consistent with the age of the copy — minor edge softening but no significant splitting observed.

Corners: Corners have light blunting from age and handling. The overall structure of the comic is intact.

Interior Pages: Interior pages are expected to show the warm toning characteristic of aged Raj Comics newsprint from this era. No missing pages.

Overall: A well-preserved vintage copy in Good condition — particularly impressive for a 1991 Raj Comics Special Edition. The colour vibrancy of the cover art suggests this copy has been stored reasonably well over three decades. A genuine find for Nagraj collectors.

Nagina Ka Jaal holds special significance in Raj Comics lore as the debut of the Panchnaag — characters who became recurring favourites across many subsequent issues. First-appearance issues carry inherent collector value, and a 1991 Raj Comics Special Edition in Good condition is increasingly rare in the secondary market.
